About

I am an exploration geologist and graduate of the University of Toronto.

This blog was set up to collect thoughts and post musings while completing the final draft of my novel, The Devil’s Gold, which loosely pulls from my experiences working in Latin America and transports them to the fictional Mexican town of Barrios Altos. Some of my other writing can be found here.

  1. David, I read several of your reviews…My Sister’s Keeper, The Power of Now and Outliers – all are insightful, fair and helpful to someone considering investing the time and money in a decent read. No wonder you left the library book club. I also question the choice of reads. I can only think they were trying to appeal to a very w i d e audience!

I’m looking forward to Devil’s Gold’s release. If it’s as well-written as your reviews, I’m sure it will be a delight to read.

    1. Thanks for your kind words Deborah. I love the variety of books you get introduced to in a book club, but with all my commitments it’s hard to tell if I can even make it out to a meeting. My policy now is to read only books that were in my ‘to read’ pile already (reading The Power of Now would have been infuriating if I missed the chance to trash it), which means jumping around several book clubs in my local library system. I’m reading The Book of Negroes now for my local club which is amazing, I don’t know how that didn’t get shortlisted for the Giller or the GG’s.
